Winning in an Autistic Household

Living Well in an Autistic Household

Who Is The Peacemaker In Your Household?

Who is the one that acts as a facilitator, being the mediator, trying to avert yet another argument?
Whether between you and your partner as you try and explain the behaviour of your child – or between your partner and your child – or all three (or more!).

Life can seem just one drawn-out battle and sometimes you think about leaving home.

There must be another way?

There is:

A combination of various techniques, coping strategies, and changing the way you act and behave can help give you and your family a calmer and more productive life.

Ideally, you should intervene with your child when he/she is still young – when the things you need to work on with them, still seem like a game or play.

And, if you have a husband/partner like mine, who was in denial about his son, then you need to help educate and persuade them too, into new ways of acting and behaving.

If the autistic person is a teenager or adult, or if they are a younger child, contact me for a chat. We can do a call over Teams/Zoom – just email me and I will send you an invite at a mutually convenient time.

Proven Strategies

Quick Tip for now:

If you want the autistic adult/child to do something that they really must do like homework or even brushing their teeth = give them a long timeframe in which to do it.

For example, if they go to bed at 8pm, then tell them at 5pm that teeth cleaning needs to be done before 7:30pm. They then choose the time that suits them, but it gets it done before the inevitable battle of trying to get them to brush their teeth at 7:30pm.

I am not a medical professional, I am a mum with over 25 years of experience who has regularly supported parents, supported autistic employees and who understands the challenges faced by both.
